SAFA — More than 500 activists from 20 countries gathered in Diyarbakır, southeastern Turkey, as part of the “Palestine Convoy,” which set out from Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina to express solidarity with Palestinians and protest the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The gathering took place in front of the Suleiman Mosque in the Sur district of central Diyarbakır, bringing together activists participating in the convoy, representatives of civil society organizations, and hundreds of Turkish citizens.

Participants waved Turkish and Palestinian flags and chanted slogans in support of Gaza, including “Peace to Gaza, continue the resistance” and “Free Palestine from the river to the sea.”

Ramazan Tekdemir, head of the Diyarbakır branch of the Memur-Sen Confederation of Public Servants Trade Unions, said the city’s hosting of the event carried significant meaning, stressing that the convoy aims to raise its voice against what participants describe as Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Tekdemir said the participants were sending a message rejecting the Israeli occupation and the pressure and suffering imposed on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. He also stressed the importance of maintaining solidarity with Palestinians and supporting grassroots movements advocating for their rights.

The “Palestine Convoy” is continuing its journey through the region with activists from several countries participating in the initiative, which aims to draw attention to the suffering of Palestinians and protest Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.
