SAFA- The Italian newspaper "Il Mattino" reported about an initiative for the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the children of Gaza through the columns of the newspaper "Avvenire" and proposed by Professor Eugenio Mazzarella.

The newspaper indicated that the initiative received widespread support, starting from the secretary-general of the Italian Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, amid the ongoing repercussions of the war on the Gaza Strip and the harsh humanitarian conditions it has caused, especially for children.

Schlein said that the truce in Gaza did not end the suffering of the residents, explaining that "despite the truce in Gaza, people are still dying," whether as a result of Israeli attacks and what she described as the crimes of the Israeli occupation government's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or due to the lack of food, water, and medicine.

Schlein added that reports from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) indicate the death of one child per day in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the truce.

The Italian initiative comes amid increasing scrutiny on the conditions of children in the Gaza Strip and the humanitarian and health challenges they face due to the war and the lack of basic necessities.
