SAFA- The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) on Thursday forced a Palestinian family to demolish three homes it owns in the Jabal Al-Mukabber neighborhood of Occupied Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Governorate said the Israeli occupation municipality ordered the Za'atara family to demolish the three homes after issuing final demolition orders about 15 days ago.
The governorate said the first home was inhabited by Mohammad Tawfiq Za'atara, his wife, and their three daughters. The second housed Khaled Za'atara and his wife, while the third was home to Tawfiq Za'atara and his eight-member family.
Under the demolition orders, the family was required to self-demolish the homes rather than have municipal crews carry out the demolitions, which would incur higher costs. Families that refuse to comply may also face accumulating fines and other financial penalties.
The practice places additional financial and psychological burdens on Jerusalemite families already facing demolition orders and restrictions on Palestinian construction.
