SAFA — The Hamas Movement has denounced the Israeli killing of Colonel Jamal Abu Kmeil, head of the civil police in Gaza City, in an airstrike targeting his vehicle, calling it a “treacherous crime” and another violation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

In a statement issued Thursday, Hamas said Abu Kmeil’s killing marked a continuation of Israeli attacks and accused Israel of seeking to fuel chaos and undermine public security across the Gaza Strip.

The Movement said the targeting of civil police personnel was part of a broader Israeli policy aimed at deepening the humanitarian crisis and pushing Gaza into further instability and disorder.

Hamas also said the killing, alongside continued Israeli attacks against Palestinians in Gaza, reflected a policy aimed at prolonging the war. It warned that deliberately targeting officials responsible for maintaining civilian security could constitute a war crime.

The Movement called on mediators, particularly the guarantors of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, to intervene immediately to halt Israeli violations and hold the Israeli government accountable.

Hamas further urged the guarantors to pressure Israel to fully and immediately implement the terms of the Sharm el-Sheikh ceasefire agreement.

The Movement stressed the need for concrete measures to prevent further violations and ensure the protection of civilians and civilian institutions throughout the Gaza Strip.
