The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Committee stated that 140 prisoners of Gilboa prison had received the vaccine against Coronavirus.
“The Israeli prisons administration embarked on administering the vaccine to prisoners since last week, in more than one detainee, including Ashkelon, Hedrim, and Damon. This was done after numerous claims by human rights and legal institutions stressed the need to provide the prisoners with the vaccine,” the Committee said in a report issued on Sunday and reached Safa.
The Israeli government had issued a decision earlier to deprive the Palestinian prisoners of the new Coronavirus vaccine and to only vaccinate prison administration personnel.
The Committee added that fears and a state of anxiety still exist among the prisoners regarding the issue of vaccination against Coronavirus, especially with the long historical experience related to the policies of the Israeli prisons management against the prisoners, including the policy of the intended medical negligence and the use of their bodies as fields for experiments, for example in Gilboa prison are about 120 prisoners refused to receive the vaccine.
World Health Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross were called on to the necessity of the existence of a neutral medical committee that supervises the administration of vaccinations to the prisoners and monitors their health conditions, especially since the Israeli detention centers deliberately transform this epidemic into a tool of repression and abuse against the prisoners by neglecting their health conditions and depriving them of the means of prevention and public safety.
The number of Coronavirus infections among the prisoners has exceeded 300 since the outbreak of the epidemic.
