Gaza City stands under an unprecedented threat as local authorities warn of plans that could obliterate the city and displace its residents on a massive scale. The spokesperson for Gaza Municipality, Asem Al-Nabih, described the situation as a “real danger threatening the city’s history, present, and future,” highlighting that prior devastation in Rafah, Khan Younis, and northern Gaza appears to be a prelude to a larger, more catastrophic assault. He stressed that such actions constitute collective punishment, a violation of international law, and cannot be justified under any military pretext.
Al-Nabih condemned the targeting of Gaza’s infrastructure, public facilities, and cultural landmarks, framing it as an attack on both regional stability and humanity’s shared heritage. He called for urgent intervention from the United Nations, the International Court of Justice, and global organisations to prevent further catastrophe, ensure the protection of civilians, and guarantee unimpeded access for humanitarian aid. He emphasised the role of international media in exposing the scale of the destruction, urging reporters to “convey the truth as it is, so that this dark chapter is not committed in silence.”
Despite the looming threat, Al-Nabih underscored the resilience of Gaza’s residents, portraying the city as a community determined to survive and rebuild. “Gaza is not a transient battleground, but a city that loves life,” he said, calling on the world to support its people in resisting destruction. The message is clear: after decades of endurance, the people of Gaza are demanding an end to killing and devastation, they seek life, and they deserve it.
