SAFA — A Palestinian coalition of tribes and families has called for urgent international action as Gaza’s humanitarian crisis deepens, warning that around 1,500 damaged buildings are at risk of collapse and could endanger tens of thousands of Palestinians.

The National Gathering of Palestinian Tribes, Clans and Families issued the warning following the collapse of the Al-Saada residential building in Gaza City, which killed and injured Palestinians sheltering inside.

The group said the disaster exposed the danger facing thousands of families who have been forced by widespread Israeli destruction and the lack of adequate shelter to live in damaged and structurally unsafe buildings.

It warned that thousands of damaged structures and vast quantities of rubble left by Israel’s war have become “delayed death bombs” threatening further casualties, particularly as families have few safe housing alternatives.

The Gathering criticised the US-backed Peace Council, chaired by US President Donald Trump, accusing it of failing to act effectively to end Palestinian suffering and address Gaza’s worsening humanitarian conditions.

It called on the United Nations, Arab states, mediators and guarantor countries to act urgently to maintain the ceasefire, accelerate reconstruction, remove dangerous rubble and provide safe housing for displaced families.

The coalition also called for immediate action ahead of winter, warning that deteriorating buildings and inadequate shelter could expose already vulnerable families to further disasters.

The warning comes amid broader UN concerns over Gaza’s shelter crisis. UN humanitarian officials have reported that nearly two million Palestinians require shelter assistance, while restrictions on the entry of shelter materials and infrastructure supplies continue to leave displaced families exposed to dangerous conditions.

The Gathering urged Arab communities and the wider public to mobilise in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and press for an end to the blockade, destruction and continued loss of Palestinian lives.
