Israeli Forces Burn Gaza Displacement Camp, Leaving Over 800 Palestinians Homeless

SAFA — Israeli occupation forces set fire to a displacement camp near the Shujaiya intersection east of Gaza City on Sunday night, destroying tents sheltering more than 800 Palestinians from over 200 families, according to Gaza's Ministry of Public Works and Housing.

The ministry said Israeli quadcopter drones ignited the camp at approximately 8 p.m., with flames continuing to consume tents and personal belongings for hours after midnight.

The fire destroyed the families' remaining possessions and left hundreds of displaced Palestinians without shelter.

Most of those affected were women, children, elderly people and patients who had already lost their homes and endured repeated displacement during Israel's war on Gaza.

For these families, the tents were their last refuge. Their destruction has left them exposed to the elements, with little access to alternative shelter or essential supplies.

Gaza Ministry Demands Immediate Intervention

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing condemned the burning of the camp and the renewed displacement of its residents, holding Israel and the US administration responsible for the continued targeting of shelters across Gaza.

It called on the United Nations, the UN Security Council and the international community to intervene immediately to stop attacks on Palestinian civilians.

The ministry also urged humanitarian organizations to provide emergency tents, alternative accommodation and essential supplies to the families who lost their shelters.

The attack comes amid a severe shelter crisis across Gaza, where widespread destruction has forced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians into overcrowded displacement camps.

With tents and construction materials in short supply, families who lose their temporary shelters face growing difficulties finding somewhere safe to stay.

For more than 800 Palestinians at the Shujaiya intersection, Sunday's fire destroyed the last shelter they had after losing their homes to war.
