The prisoner club said, on Monday, that the Jerusalemite prisoner, Ayman Sidr, 54, who has been in detention for 26 years, is still facing a difficult health condition in the Israeli Shamir Medical Center, due to his suffering from the complications of his infection with Coronavirus.

The club stated in a press release that despite Sidr’ urgent need to receive the necessary health care, the Israeli prisons administration had recently delayed transferring him to the hospital, which caused his health to decline.

The Prisons Administration transferred him to the so-called Ramla Prison Clinic, which does not have the minimum necessary health conditions for patients, instead of transferring him to the hospital.

There is no accurate information about the details of the health condition of Prisoner Sidr, as the Israeli prison administration continues to monopolize the narrative of the epidemic, including the information of the health condition of COVID-19 infected prisoners.

The family of Prisoner Sidr has been living in a state of severe anxiety over his fate and life since his infection, accompanied by great challenges that the institutions concerned with following up on prisoners face, as a result of the prison management procedures to turn the epidemic into a pretext to impose more control and isolation on prisoners and place them in double isolation far from their lawyers and families.

With the continued spread of the epidemic and its use as a tool of repression and abuse against the prisoners by Israel, the Prisoners' Club held the Israeli prisons administration fully responsible for the lives of Prisoner Sidr and all prisoners, especially the sick and the elderly.

The competent authorities, headed by the Red Cross, should play the real and necessary role in monitoring the health conditions of the infected prisoners and reassuring their families.

The prisoner, Sidr, is one of the dozens of prisoners who have contracted Coronavirus in Raymond prison since January 11, and they are among 355 prisoners who have contracted the virus in the Israeli prisons since the beginning of its spread.

Sidr has been detained for 26 years and sentenced to long life imprisonment and he is one of the oldest Jerusalemites prisoners in the Israeli jails and he suffers from health problems and diseases, resulting from the harsh detention conditions he was exposed to over the past years.

Sidr was subjected to a harsh investigation that lasted for five months at Al-Maskobiya investigation center after his arrest and Israel refused to release him in 2011, during the Wafa Al-Ahrar prisoner swap deal.

The prisoner is married and has only one son, who was few-month-old when his father was arrested.
