SAFA — Hamas condemned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Thursday after he published footage showing a handcuffed Palestinian prisoner being forced to paint a prison cell wall under threat, accusing him of deliberately humiliating Palestinian detainees and openly displaying their mistreatment.
In a statement issued Thursday, November 5, Hamas official Abdul Rahman Shadid described the incident as an act of psychological and physical abuse that reflects the treatment of Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli detention facilities.
Shadid said Ben-Gvir's decision to publicize the footage was an attempt to conceal what he described as Israel's political and military failures by humiliating defenseless prisoners.
He accused Israeli authorities of systematically violating the rights of Palestinian detainees, arguing that such practices constitute serious crimes under international law.
The Hamas official stressed that public displays of prisoner abuse would not break the detainees' resolve.
Shadid also condemned what he described as ongoing retaliatory measures against Palestinian prisoners, including systematic medical neglect and restrictions on their basic rights.
He called for a unified Palestinian response and greater public solidarity with prisoners held in Israeli detention facilities.
Shadid urged international human rights organizations, UN bodies and the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene immediately to halt abuses against Palestinian detainees.
He also called for Israeli officials responsible for violations to face accountability before international courts.
The statement comes amid continuing concerns over the treatment of Palestinians in Israeli prisons, including allegations of physical abuse, medical neglect and restrictions on basic rights.
Hamas maintained that the humiliation of Palestinian prisoners would not weaken their determination, calling on international institutions to take concrete action to protect detainees and ensure accountability.
