UN calls on Israel to stop demolishing Palestinian homes

“Israel should immediately stop all demolitions of Palestinian homes and properties,” the United Nations said.

The deputy special coordinator for the Mideast peace process, Lynn Hastings, warned in a press statement that "the conditions in which pressure is exerted on communities to move from them carry a real risk of forcible deportation."

After visiting Khirbet Humsa al-Fawqa in the northern Jordan Valley on Wednesday, Hastings said that Israeli measures against the gathering continue even though residents have exhausted remedies through local legal procedures.

"In accordance with international law, the Israeli authorities should immediately stop all additional demolitions of Palestinian homes and properties," said Lynn.

"All tents, supplies, water tanks and livestock fodder were confiscated, despite repeated calls by the international community to stop these measures in accordance with international law."

The UN Coordinator called on the Israeli authorities to allow the humanitarian community to provide shelter, food, and water for this most vulnerable group and to help them to stay in their homes.
