First Emirati ambassador arrives in Tel Aviv

The first Emirati ambassador on Monday morning arrived in Israel, at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, less than six months after the formalization of the normalization agreement between the two sides.

The Hebrew newspaper, Maariv, stated that ambassador Mohammad Mahmoud Al Khajah will meet today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabi Ashkenazi.

Later, Al Khajah will also meet the Prime Minister of the Israeli government, Benjamin Netanyahu, and a suitable place will be searched for the official opening of the embassy in April.

The current visit will last for four days, after which the ambassador will return to the Emirates until the embassy is officially opened, according to the newspaper.

Depending on the followed measures, the ambassador received a coronavirus test upon his arrival at the airport and he will wait in a hotel in Tel Aviv until the result is out.

If the result of his test is negative, he will go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and present his credentials.

The ambassador reception will be in an official ceremony conducted by the Israeli army at the entrance to the entity’s president’s office, Reuven Rivlin, on Tuesday.
