Slovenia has taken an unprecedented step by imposing a total ban on the export, import, and transit of weapons to and from Israel, in direct response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The move underscores mounting frustration with Europe’s failure to act decisively as the humanitarian catastrophe worsens.
Prime Minister Robert Golob announced the ban following a government session, declaring it a protest against both the atrocities in Gaza and the European Union’s paralysis. Slovenia also summoned Israel’s ambassador to condemn the siege and demand unrestricted humanitarian access.
This decision follows Slovenia’s recent recognition of Palestine as an independent state and its barring of Israeli ministers notorious for incitement against Palestinians. It signals a clear shift in Europe’s stance, challenging the EU’s inaction while highlighting growing outrage at the mass killings, famine, and destruction gripping Gaza.
With over 207,000 Palestinians killed or injured since October 2023 and famine tightening its hold, Slovenia’s move amplifies calls for accountability and may pressure other European states to break their silence and confront Israel’s crimes.
