The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas hailed the announcement of Jerusalem Week on the annual anniversary of Al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj, which is marked on 27 Rajab, the seventh month in the Islamic calendar.
"Through history, Muslim scholars have played great role in raising morale and advocate for defending Muslims’ holiest sites and places, foremost among them Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy city of Jerusalem, which the Muslim world should defend and protect with all their strength," the movement said in a statement, a copy of which obtained by Safa.
"The International Jerusalem Week is a crucial prelude to reviving the issue of Jerusalem and al-Aqsa Mosque and shedding light on the Israeli crimes against the holy city and the Muslim compound," it added.
"We call on all Muslims and Palestinians, particularly Hamas members and supporters, to effectively take part in the activities due to be held to mark the Jerusalem Week for the sake of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem and reviving the heritage of Muslim leader Salah al-Din."
