At least 14 members of Congress and 70 American organizations announced their support for a bill submitted by Minnesota Congressman Betty McCollum that links US aid to Israel with respect for the rights of the Palestinian people.
The bill aims to defend the human rights of Palestinian children and families living under the Israeli military occupation.
In a separate letter, McCollum called on members of Congress committed to promoting human rights, peace, and justice for the Palestinians to co-sponsor it.
The bill prohibits the use of funds granted to Israel from US tax dollars in each of the following cases:
1) Military detention, abuse, or ill-treatment of Palestinian children.
2) Supporting the confiscation and destruction of Palestinian property and homes in violation of international humanitarian law.
3) Any support or assistance for Israel's unilateral annexation of the Palestinian territories in violation of international humanitarian law.
