Shtayyeh forms independent committee to investigate "vaccine scandal"

Minister of Palestine Mohammed Shtayyeh launched an independent committee to  investigate the "vaccine scandal"

He suggested forming this investigation committee at the beginning of the governmental session which included the head of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, the representative of the pharmaceutical industry in Palestine, the representative of the World Health Organization, and the representative of the civil sector.

He said that they will give the agreement of the COVID vaccine exchange to the committee.

He confirmed that the Palestinian Ministry of Health returned 90.000 doses of Pfizer vaccine, which are near-expired.

He confirmed that the Palestinian Authority bought the vaccines from Pfizer company and paid the price from the State Treasury, and noted that they agreed with Pfizer to receive the available vaccines from Israel's stores.

"We made that agreement to accelerate the provision of vaccines for the Palestinians yet the Ministry of Health delayed delivering the first patch. So, when we delivered the vaccines, their expiration date was about to finish," he justified.

He stressed that they did not make any changes over the program of vaccination in the health centers in all governates, and called all citizens to receive the vaccines even though the death toll resulted from coronavirus decreased.
