UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an immediate and independent investigation following yet another Israeli massacre in Gaza, where scores of starving civilians were gunned down while waiting for food. The attack, which took place at Al-Tahliyah Roundabout in Khan Younis, left 51 dead and over 200 injured, many in critical condition.
Speaking through his deputy spokesperson, Guterres described the targeting of people seeking food under siege as "unacceptable" and demanded full accountability. He reiterated that Israel bears clear obligations under international humanitarian law to allow the unhindered flow of aid to civilians.
Despite widespread condemnation, aid continues to be distributed through the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation”, an Israeli- and U.S.-backed mechanism operating outside UN oversight. Palestinians have denounced the initiative as a political tool, not a humanitarian effort.
Guterres warned that Gaza’s basic needs remain unmet and that humanitarian actors must be granted safe, unrestricted access. As the siege tightens and aid lines turn into death traps, Palestinians continue to pay the price for international inaction.
