Gaza: Entire Families Buried Alive as Israeli Assault Reduces Shelters to Mass Graves

As Israel’s war on Gaza stretches beyond 630 days, the devastation shows no sign of abating. In the latest bloodshed, Israeli airstrikes and shelling have buried entire families beneath sand and rubble, turning makeshift shelters and schools into mass graves for the displaced.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health reports a staggering death toll of over 56,000 Palestinians since October 2023, with more than 132,000 wounded. In just the past few months, since the war’s deadly resurgence in March, over 6,000 have been killed. Among them are children, women, and elderly civilians, many of whom had sought refuge in tent encampments or UN-run schools, only to be targeted again.

One of the most horrific recent attacks struck a displacement camp near the Holy Family School in Gaza City’s Al-Rimal neighbourhood. An Israeli missile created a 20-metre crater, swallowing more than 15 tents and the people inside. Entire families vanished under the sand. Similar scenes unfolded in Khan Younis, where tents housing displaced civilians were bombed, and in Gaza City, where a classroom sheltering families was struck, killing more and wounding several.

Nowhere is safe. Even those waiting for food on Salah Al-Din Road were shot at by occupation forces. Hospitals, including Al-Awda, continue to receive waves of wounded, while aid workers warn that the humanitarian system is on the verge of total collapse.

What unfolds in Gaza is not random warfare, it is a calculated campaign of starvation, displacement, and destruction. Doctors Without Borders has joined calls for aid to resume under UN oversight, insisting that relief must no longer be weaponised or sabotaged. Yet the bombs continue to fall, homes are demolished, and civilians disappear, either buried in silence or seized under enforced detention.

In the face of mounting horror, the world’s silence is deafening. Gaza’s children are being buried with their parents beneath the very sand they fled to for safety. The war no longer hides behind military objectives; it is a war against life itself.
