Israel's plans aim to turn Jerusalem into a Jewish city, says HCHR

Hemaya Center for Human Rights‎‏ (HCHR) said Tuesday that the Israeli authorities' approval to confiscate 2000 dunums and demolish 200 industrial structures in Jerusalem aims to turn Jerusalem into a Jewish city, which is considered a continuation of the violation of international law and international resolutions and conventions.

HCHR added in its statement, a copy of which obtained by SAFA, that the Israeli authorities follow a systematic policy to seize Palestinians' lands and properties and demolish their facilities for the purpose of constructing settlement units and projects.

The center condemned the Israeli policy, stressing that such measures constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, in addition to being a violation of the principles stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

It confirmed that the policy of demolishing and confiscating Palestinian homes and properties in the benefits of settlement projects is "collective punishment against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories and it is an international crime under the crimes included in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court."

It also called on the international community, especially the states that signed the Fourth Geneva Convention, to immediately intervene to protect the people of Jerusalem and pressure the Israeli authorities to stop the policy of demolishing homes and confiscating property in the Palestinian territories in general and in the city of Jerusalem in particular.
