Two prominent Jewish organisations in the United States have spoken out against Israel’s plan to fully occupy the Gaza Strip, warning that such a move would deepen the humanitarian catastrophe and lead to further loss of life on both sides. The American Jewish Committee highlighted the danger of expanding and entrenching the occupation, stressing the need to uphold the New York Declaration on a peaceful settlement and to pursue a two-state solution.
Similarly, the Anti-Defamation League condemned the plan, cautioning that it would worsen Gaza’s already catastrophic conditions while emphasising that American Jews should not be held accountable for the policies of the Israeli government. Both organisations criticised the displacement of Palestinians from northern to southern Gaza, which threatens to close off any possibility of resuming peace negotiations.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with US backing, has waged a large-scale military campaign on Gaza, described by Palestinians as genocide through killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement. The assault has claimed over 61,000 lives, injured more than 152,000, left over 9,000 missing, and displaced hundreds of thousands, while famine continues to devastate civilians, including countless children.
