For over two months, Israel’s military campaign in northern Gaza has forced civilians to flee their homes amidst relentless bombardment and starvation tactics. Key areas, including Jabalia, Beit Lahiya, and Beit Hanoun, have witnessed widespread displacement, with entire residential blocks reduced to rubble.
The Israeli assault, which began on October 5, 2024, aims to weaken Hamas in the region. According to the Gaza Government Media Office, over 3,700 Palestinians have been killed or are missing, with more than 10,000 injured. The offensive has devastated entire neighbourhoods, leaving civilians with no safe havens.
Among the displaced is Khaled Al-Badi from Beit Lahiya, who has been forced to move multiple times. After fleeing to Abu Tamam School for safety, the escalating violence drove him to sleep in the open in Gaza City. He describes the situation as a genocidal assault, with many civilians killed during the invasion and deliberate starvation tactics used to force people from their homes.
Amnesty International has condemned Israel’s actions, labelling them as genocide. Its report outlines the physical and psychological harm inflicted on Palestinians, calling for immediate international intervention. Furthermore, the organisation urges countries supplying weapons to Israel, including the US and EU members, to halt these shipments to prevent complicity in the ongoing atrocities.
