The Netzarim Axis, a military checkpoint in Gaza, has become a deadly path for displaced Palestinians attempting to flee from the northern part of Gaza to the south, following Israeli evacuation orders. This checkpoint has turned into a site of constant danger, where civilians face the threat of deliberate killings, field executions, and enforced disappearances.
The checkpoint, located in a well-fortified military zone, is equipped with advanced security systems and sensors, but unarmed civilians attempting to cross the area are met with relentless violence. “Stray dogs tear off the bodies of the living wounded,” says Hala Nabhan, one of the displaced people trying to reunite with her family in the north. She describes the horror of being shot at by Israeli soldiers as soon as anyone dares approach, with injured civilians left to die, while any attempt to help them is met with more gunfire.
This "Death Corridor" is a six-kilometer stretch of road that has claimed countless lives, separating families and forcing people to risk everything in search of safety. Despite multiple attempts, Nabhan has not been able to reunite with her loved ones. After the martyrdom of her son, she felt shattered and was denied the chance to say goodbye. Yet, despite witnessing the atrocities, she continues to dream of returning to northern Gaza, even though each attempt at crossing the checkpoint has ended in violence.
An investigation by Haaretz on December 18, 2023, revealed testimonies of Israeli soldiers executing unarmed Palestinian civilians at the Netzarim Axis, following orders to kill anyone approaching. Soldiers recounted targeting children and using anti-tank missiles against civilians. Backed by the U.S., Israel's ongoing aggression since October 7, 2023, has caused over 152,000 casualties and left more than 11,000 missing, primarily women and children.
