620 Chilean Lawyers File Lawsuit Against Israeli Soldier Over Gaza War Crimes

In a groundbreaking move, 620 lawyers in Chile have filed a lawsuit against Israeli soldier Sar Hirshorin of the 749 Battalion, accusing him of committing war crimes in Gaza. The lawsuit, reported by Chilean media, claims Hirshorin was responsible for devastating residential areas, cultural sites, and critical infrastructure in Gaza, carrying out acts of inhumanity that led to forced displacement and ethnic cleansing.

The complaint is supported by the testimony of a Palestinian woman living in Chile, whose family suffered at the hands of Israeli military operations. Former Chilean ambassador and lawyer Nelson Haddad emphasized the urgency of the case, stating, "We filed this complaint to initiate an investigation and demand the immediate arrest of Hirshorin, to bring him before the International Criminal Court."

Haddad also condemned the fact that, despite the loss of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian lives, many of them women and children, Israeli soldiers like Hirshorin are allowed to vacation in places like Chile’s Patagonia. The legal action comes on the heels of Brazil's judicial authorities also calling for the detention of an Israeli soldier, continuing the international effort to hold those responsible for the ongoing crimes in Gaza accountable.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel's offensive on Gaza has claimed the lives of approximately 46,000 people, wounded over 109,000, and left countless more missing beneath the rubble of their homes.
