The New York Times reported, citing Israeli officials, that the war in Gaza could resume once the remaining 30 hostages are released.
Officials stated that Israel remains committed to dismantling Hamas’ military wing and government in Gaza.
The report noted that international pressure and the lack of a clear plan to control Gaza could hinder Israel’s ability to effectively resume the war.
Within Gaza, opinions are divided between Hamas supporters and residents fearing further harsh rule and future wars.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed Israel’s right to resume fighting with U.S. support if the second phase of the ceasefire proves ineffective. He pledged to achieve the war’s objectives, eliminate the Hamas threat, and secure the return of Israeli captives.
Separately, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich held a “secret and urgent” meeting to organize a campaign against the hostage deal and push for resuming the war, focusing on mobilizing domestic and international support.
