The Israeli army has escalated its raids across the occupied West Bank, drawing widespread condemnation. On Sunday, Israeli forces launched an assault on the town of Tambun, in the northern West Bank, where they detained several Palestinians. They also stormed the town of Shuqba, west of Ramallah, opening fire and launching tear gas at local Palestinians. Additionally, the regime's troops demolished 23 homes in Jenin.
Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, expressed concern over the actions of the Israeli regime in the West Bank, which she considers violations of international law. In a statement on X, Albanese highlighted the scale of the destruction, which now extends beyond Gaza to the entire occupied Palestinian territory. She remarked, "The genocidal intent is evident in the way Israel targets all Palestinians 'as such' and the entire occupied Palestinian territory... It is well past time for intervention to end this."
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council regarding the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the West Bank, which aims to displace them from their ancestral land. He emphasized the "systematic destruction of infrastructure" and Israel’s "deadly policy," which has claimed the lives of dozens of Palestinians.
Abbas urged the UN Security Council to "act urgently and take responsibility for providing international protection to the Palestinian people" and to press the occupying entity to cease its grave crimes and ethnic cleansing policies. He also called on US President Donald Trump’s administration to put an end to Israel's offensive in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli army initiated its offensive on 21 January, claiming it was targeting fighters from the Jenin battalion. On Sunday, the occupying forces claimed to have killed more than 50 Palestinians and detained over 100 others during the West Bank raids over the past two weeks.
Since October 2023, Israel has intensified its raids in the West Bank, following the genocidal assault on Gaza. Israel was forced to accept a ceasefire in Gaza after failing to achieve its objectives in the besieged territory, despite the deaths of nearly 47,500 Palestinians, primarily women and children, during 15 months of war.
