Yousef Abu Al-Reesh, the Undersecretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, has raised alarm about the ongoing manipulation of medical aid entering Gaza. He confirmed that the aid currently being provided meets only 20% of the urgent needs of the health sector, with critical supplies delayed or sidelined. Abu Al-Reesh emphasized that international bodies had been given detailed lists of medical necessities, yet the aid entering Gaza does not align with these priorities.
During his visit to hospitals in Rafah, he stressed the importance of urgently bringing in essential medical supplies and equipment to provide even the most basic services. He warned against the practice of delaying vital medical aid, which has left Gaza under siege and unable to recover.
The war by the Israeli occupation army has left many hospitals in Gaza destroyed, with those still standing suffering from severe shortages of medical resources. The World Health Organization has stated that restoring Gaza's healthcare system is an immense challenge, with multi-billion-dollar investments required for recovery. Health experts estimate that rebuilding the healthcare sector could take up to 12 years.
The situation remains dire, and the international community’s immediate response is critical to alleviate the suffering of the wounded and ensure that Gaza’s health sector can provide essential services to its people.
