Five Arab foreign ministers and a senior Palestinian official have sent a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, rejecting President Trump’s proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza and urging direct Palestinian involvement in reconstruction efforts.
The letter, signed by the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, and Jordan, alongside Palestinian presidential advisor Hussein al-Sheikh, warned that forced displacement would destabilise the region and increase the risk of radicalisation. It reaffirmed that Palestinians must rebuild their homeland rather than be removed from it.
Trump’s repeated remarks about relocating Palestinians to neighbouring countries have alarmed Arab states, who view the proposal as a violation of Palestinian rights. The letter stressed that any reconstruction in Gaza must be led by its residents, with international support but without stripping them of their agency.
Arab leaders also warned against any Israeli attempt to deport Palestinians, stating that such actions would add a dangerous new dimension to the conflict. They reiterated their commitment to working with the US towards a just and lasting solution based on the two-state model.
