Israeli forces have killed a young Palestinian man in the northern occupied West Bank, alleging he was attempting a car-ramming attack against soldiers.
28-year-old Issa Riyad Issa Jabali was shot dead on the morning of 13 February after Israeli troops opened fire on his vehicle near the Hawara checkpoint, south of Nablus.
The Israeli army claimed Jabali, a resident of Beita, had attempted to ram soldiers with his car. Following the fatal shooting, Israeli forces withheld his body, a practice frequently condemned by human rights groups as collective punishment.
Since launching a large-scale offensive in the West Bank on 21 January—just two days after the ceasefire in Gaza—Israeli forces have killed at least 73 Palestinians, including ten children, three women, and two elderly individuals, according to Wafa. UN agencies report that the assault has displaced tens of thousands, turning refugee camps in Jenin and Tulkarem into what they describe as "ghost towns."
