Over 70 American Civil Rights Groups Urge Trump to Abandon Gaza Plan

More than 70 civil rights organizations have called on President Donald Trump to abandon his plan to take control of Gaza and forcibly relocate nearly two million Palestinians to neighbouring countries like Jordan and Egypt.

In a letter, these groups expressed "deep concern" about the proposed expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland. They urged the U.S. administration to build on past diplomatic efforts that led to a ceasefire in Gaza, rather than pursue policies that could destabilise the region.

The letter warns that such actions could lead to a violent response from the Arab and Muslim world, drain U.S. resources, and prevent the peaceful establishment of a Palestinian state. Prominent signatories include the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Americans for Palestine, CODEPINK, and the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO).

The groups firmly reject the idea of Gaza as a "real estate project" and stress that it is the homeland for millions of Palestinians. They call on Trump to work with regional partners to rebuild Gaza without displacing its people. According to international law experts, the plan to relocate Gaza’s population constitutes a clear violation of international law.
