The Ministry of Public Works and Housing in Gaza has reported that around 280,000 housing units have been completely or partially destroyed in the ongoing Israeli assault, making them uninhabitable.
The ministry said that, as of Sunday, 250,000 units had been surveyed on the ground. Of these, 170,000 were completely destroyed, and 80,000 were no longer safe for living.
The ministry emphasized that their teams worked from the first day of the conflict to document the damage, despite significant risks. After the ceasefire, teams were able to reach areas that had been previously inaccessible, increasing the collection of data.
The ministry is connecting the preliminary data with geographic information systems, in coordination with local municipalities, to share information with social development ministries and other partners to provide the necessary shelter support.
The ministry also plans to launch an online portal soon, allowing affected families to check the status of their homes and register unlisted units, which will then be added to the database for further assessment.
In conclusion, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to provide data and technical support to both local and international organizations involved in shelter and reconstruction efforts, continuing to help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
