Israeli Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, has decided to establish a special department within the so-called "Ministry of Security" to oversee what he described as the "voluntary departure" of Gaza residents to third countries.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, this body will include representatives from other government ministries and security agencies, and will supervise the implementation of a plan that allows any Palestinian from Gaza who wishes to leave to receive a "package" that includes arrangements for departure by sea, air, or land.
The decision was made during a security meeting in which the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Palestinian Territories, Ghassan Aliyan, presented an initial plan requested by the Defense Minister, according to the statement released by the Ministry of Security on Monday evening.
The statement mentioned that "the plan includes extensive assistance allowing any resident of Gaza wishing to voluntarily migrate to a third country to receive a package, which includes, among other things, special arrangements for departure via sea, air, and land."
The meeting was attended by the Acting Director General of the Ministry of Security, Itamar Graf, along with military and security officials, including the Military Secretary to the Prime Minister, Roman Gofman, and the official responsible for the humanitarian file in Gaza, Elad Goren.
This decision comes in the context of U.S. President Donald Trump's proposals regarding Gaza, and amid recurring calls within Netanyahu's government to forcibly expel Gaza residents, with reports of attempts to persuade countries to accept Palestinians from Gaza.
