Hundreds of Gaza Detainees Missing Amid "Catastrophic" Prison Conditions

Ammar Dweik, Chairman of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, has warned of a "catastrophic deterioration" in the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails since October 7, 2023. In a statement to *Snd News Agency*, Dweik revealed that Israeli authorities, under National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, have imposed harsh measures, including reduced food rations, isolation, beatings, and medical neglect, leading to the deaths of 62 prisoners.

Hundreds of Gaza detainees remain missing, with Israeli authorities refusing to disclose their fate. Testimonies from released prisoners and human rights reports highlight systematic torture, including sexual violence and the use of dogs, particularly against Gaza detainees held in military camps.

The commission has submitted over 400 requests to locate missing detainees, but only 250 have been confirmed in custody. Many deaths are attributed to torture or medical neglect, yet independent investigations are denied.

Dweik called for urgent international intervention to allow Red Cross visits, disclose detainee conditions, and launch an independent investigation into violations. He emphasized the need for the immediate release of all Palestinian detainees, underscoring the escalating human rights crisis in Israeli prisons.
