Hamas has declared a state of maximum readiness for "all scenarios" following threats from Israel and the US. Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, stated that Israel's attempts to achieve its goals through "weapons and war" have failed, adding that intimidation tactics against the Resistance are ineffective.
The statement comes after US President Donald Trump warned of severe consequences if Israeli captives in Gaza are not released. Abu Ubaida reaffirmed Hamas's commitment to a prisoner exchange agreement, accusing Israel of violating its terms. He emphasised that Hamas seeks to uphold the deal to prevent further bloodshed and honour mediation efforts.
A ceasefire agreement, brokered in January, saw 33 Israeli captives released in exchange for 1,800 Palestinian detainees during its first phase. However, the second phase, which included the release of all Palestinian prisoners and an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, has stalled due to Israel's refusal to comply.
Abu Ubaida condemned Israel's blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza and warned that any escalation would result in further losses. He reiterated that resistance remains the path to stability, stating, "The enemy's threats reflect nothing but weakness and humiliation."
