Gaza’s hospitals are struggling to cope with the devastating toll of ongoing Israeli airstrikes, as medical facilities are overwhelmed by the sheer number of casualties. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, Director of Al-Shifa Hospital, Gaza’s largest medical center, warned that operating rooms are fully occupied, leaving many of the wounded to die without access to treatment. “Hospitals in the Gaza Strip are unable to accommodate the growing number of injured. The wounded are dying without finding a bed for treatment,” he said on Tuesday.
The situation is further exacerbated by the depletion of essential medical supplies due to the prolonged war and siege. Abu Salmiya revealed that all morgue refrigerators in Gaza’s hospitals are now filled to capacity with the bodies of victims. He condemned Israel’s systematic targeting of Gaza’s health infrastructure, noting that only four ICU beds remain available in Gaza City and the northern regions. “The basic components of the health system are absent in this critical situation,” he added, calling for urgent international support.
The latest wave of Israeli airstrikes, which began early Tuesday, has left hundreds dead and injured across Gaza. The attacks, which targeted residential areas, shelters, and displacement camps, have been described as a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have ordered the military to intensify operations, signaling a potential escalation in violence and further deepening the humanitarian crisis.
As Gaza’s hospitals teeter on the brink of collapse, the international community faces mounting pressure to intervene. The people of Gaza, trapped in a cycle of violence and deprivation, are left to endure yet another chapter of suffering. With morgues full and medical resources stretched to their limits, the need for immediate action to halt the bloodshed and provide humanitarian aid has never been more urgent.
