Gaza Government Condemns Israeli Attack on UN Personnel as a "War Crime"

The Government Media Office in Gaza has condemned what it described as a "horrific crime" after Israeli forces targeted UN personnel in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing one foreign worker and injuring five others.

In a press statement, the office accused the Israeli occupation of deliberately attacking a UN headquarters, calling it a "blatant war crime" and part of a systematic policy to undermine humanitarian efforts in Gaza. "This crime reflects the occupation’s determination to obstruct relief work and worsen the catastrophic conditions faced by Palestinians," the statement read.

The deceased, identified as a Ukrainian national, was part of a UN team inspecting a location in Deir al-Balah when they were hit by Israeli airstrikes. The injured, suffering severe wounds, were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.

The Gaza government held Israel fully responsible for the attack, stating it violates international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which protect relief workers. It also criticized the international community’s silence, arguing it emboldens further violations.

The office called on the United Nations to take decisive action, urging an immediate investigation and accountability for Israel’s escalating crimes. "This crime is a test of the world’s commitment to protecting international law and preventing war crimes," the statement concluded.

The attack highlights the dangers faced by humanitarian workers in Gaza, where Israeli strikes continue to target civilians and vital infrastructure amid a worsening humanitarian crisis.
