As Gaza sinks deeper into destruction, a leading human rights organisation is calling on the European Union to end its complicity and sever all ties with Israel. Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has sent an urgent letter to EU foreign ministers, urging them to impose economic, diplomatic, and military sanctions on Israel and to halt all cooperation with a state it accuses of orchestrating a genocide against the Palestinian people.
The letter, a desperate appeal in the face of silence, details the deliberate annihilation of Gaza’s infrastructure—homes, hospitals, farms, and water systems—reduced to rubble by months of Israeli bombardment. According to the group, over 80% of the territory’s vital structures have been destroyed, leaving nearly no safe refuge for civilians who continue to be starved, displaced, and targeted.
With over 51,000 lives lost and more than 116,000 wounded since the start of the assault on 7 October 2023, the letter describes a situation spiralling into an abyss. Euro-Med Monitor warns of “Nazi-like tactics” aimed at annihilating an entire population, accusing Israel of cutting off food, medicine, and essential aid, while bombing densely populated areas with impunity.
Despite the unimaginable toll, the organisation insists there is still a chance to stop the genocide—if the European Union acts. It has urged member states to support proceedings in The Hague and hold Israeli leaders accountable for crimes against humanity. “This is not simply war,” the letter reads. “This is a genocide unfolding in plain sight.”
As bodies continue to pile under the rubble and in the streets—beyond the reach of rescuers—the message from Gaza is clear: silence is complicity.
