A newly established chapter of France Palestine Solidarity (AFPS) in Chartres is organizing a demonstration on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 4:00 PM in Place des Épars. The event follows the creation of the association in February 2025, after a meeting of activists from various left-wing and humanitarian movements. The AFPS aims to raise awareness about the ongoing situation in Palestine and express solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Members of the association, including Micheline Cognard from the party Ensemble! and Martin Desombre from La France Insoumise (LFI), have been engaging with locals in Chartres to share their concerns and distribute leaflets ahead of the demonstration. They highlighted the ongoing violence and displacement of Palestinian communities, emphasizing the scale of suffering in Gaza. "What’s happening in Palestine is not just a conflict; it’s a strategy of massacre and displacement, and it amounts to genocide," stated Martin Desombre.
The protest will feature portraits of Palestinians who have been killed in Gaza, aiming to put faces to the estimated 50,000 Palestinian deaths since the start of the conflict. The AFPS calls for an immediate halt to the violence and an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory. Additionally, the association will screen the documentary Yallah Gaza on May 6, 2025, at the Les Enfants du Paradis cinema in Chartres, with the director, Roland Nurier, attending the event.
