Two Palestinian specialists state that the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories is still absent in light of the continued suffering of the Palestinians as a result of the Israeli occupation, and the international community's failure to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities in protecting the Palestinians and realizing their legitimate rights.
The world celebrates the International Day of Human Rights on the 10th of December each year, as a reminder of the claims contained in the Universal Charter of Human Rights.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an important historical document in the history of human rights, drafted by representatives of various legal and cultural backgrounds from all over the world, and the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration in Paris on December 10, 1948 under Resolution 217.
The Deputy Director General of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, Jamil Sarhan, said that the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories is absent as a result of Israel continuing its practices and crimes against the Palestinians, without accountability by the international community.
Sarhan said, In a special statement to SAFA on Thursday, that the Palestinian territories are still subject to the International Day of Human Rights under the Israeli occupation, and human values and even international laws that protect human rights are still absent and without any implementation on the ground.
"Our message on the International Human Rights Day is the necessity of respecting rights in order to implement all the decisions issued by the United Nations, which guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the right to self-determination," Sarhan said.
He stressed the importance of the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes from which they were displaced, in accordance with Resolution 194, as well as the importance of achieving better justice and equality, and spreading the culture of human rights in society.
Renewed Opportunity
Head of the International Organization for Supporting the Rights of the Palestinian People (Hashd) Salah Abd Al-Ati said that the International Day constitutes a renewed opportunity to find out the suffering of the Palestinians and draw the world's attention to the continuing and worsening tragedy as a result of the continued denial of their basic rights.
Abd al-Ati explained to SAFA that this day also constitutes an opportunity to remind the world of the occupation's crimes against the Palestinian people, and its continuing violations of their rights, at a time of expansion arrests, construction and settlement expansion, control of natural resources, judaization of Jerusalem and annexation of the West Bank.
The Universal Declaration is not a binding document, it served as an inspiration for the preparation of more than 60 human rights instruments, which together constitute an international reference for human rights.
The articles of the Universal Declaration recognized the right to life, liberty and security, and not to be enslaved or subjected to torture, cruel or inhuman punishment and enforced disappearance, and recognized the right of every person to a legal personality and to enjoy the protection of the law, and other rights.
