Israeli Drone Strike Targets Gaza-Bound Aid Ship Off Malta

In the early hours of May 2, 2025, the humanitarian aid vessel Conscience, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was struck by drones in international waters, about 17 nautical miles off the coast of Malta. The attack caused a fire, significant structural damage, and a breach in the hull, while also disabling the ship's generator, leaving it in a perilous state.

The Conscience was carrying 30 individuals, including 12 crew members and 18 activists from various countries. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and all those on board are safe. The vessel was en route to Gaza, aiming to deliver much-needed aid and raise awareness of the ongoing blockade imposed by Israel, which has drastically affected the region’s access to essential supplies.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with calls for a thorough investigation into the attack. Humanitarian organizations have expressed outrage, highlighting the escalation of Israel’s aggressive tactics against peaceful aid efforts. Activists aboard the ship were part of a mission to challenge the ongoing blockade of Gaza and to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, whose suffering has intensified due to the restrictions.

The attack has reignited discussions on the need for international accountability and the urgent necessity to end the siege on Gaza.
