Former British MP and outspoken broadcaster George Galloway declared that no nation has defended the Palestinian cause with more consistency and courage than the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Speaking at the third edition of the Sobh International Media Festival in Tehran on Monday, Galloway was awarded a special honour named after martyr Ismail Haniyeh, in recognition of his unwavering support for Palestine and the wider Axis of Resistance.
“Iran has done more than any other country in the world to liberate the Palestinian people from slavery, suffering, and endless sacrifice,” Galloway stated during a passionate address, adding that Yemen follows closely in its support. He noted that although “useful idiots” and enemies may try to dismiss Iran’s contributions, history will place Tehran among the heroes once Palestine is free.
Galloway, now leader of the Workers Party of Britain, thanked the Iranian people, leaders, and martyrs for their resolute commitment to the Palestinian struggle. Recounting a deeply personal moment, he recalled receiving a Palestinian passport from then-leader Ismail Haniyeh during a mission to break the blockade on Gaza — not just any passport, but Haniyeh’s own. “It remains one of my most treasured possessions,” he said.
The Sobh Media Festival, hosted by Iran’s state broadcaster, brings together voices from across the globe who challenge dominant Western narratives and advocate for justice in oppressed regions. As the genocide in Gaza continues, voices like Galloway’s remind the world of who has stood firmly on the side of the oppressed, even when the cost is high.
