Israeli settlers, backed by heavily armed occupation forces, stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Sunday morning, marking yet another attempt to impose a new reality on one of Islam’s holiest sites. Entering through the Moroccan Gate, the settlers carried out religious rituals in a clear violation of the site's sanctity and longstanding international agreements.
Palestinian worshippers faced strict restrictions, with many prevented from entering and others forced to hand over their identity cards at the gates. These measures form part of a broader strategy aimed at limiting Palestinian presence in the mosque, particularly ahead of the so-called “Jerusalem Day” later this month, when settler groups plan to escalate their provocations.
Palestinians view these incursions as part of a systematic effort to Judaise Al-Aqsa and erase its Islamic identity. The growing presence of settlers, encouraged by far-right Israeli ministers, is seen as a prelude to dividing or even replacing the mosque with what they call the “Third Temple.”
Calls continue across Palestine for mass mobilisation to defend Al-Aqsa. For many, the daily violations are not isolated incidents but part of a long-standing plan to change the political and religious status of occupied Jerusalem.
