Hospitals Under Fire as Gaza’s Health System Collapses

In Gaza, even hospitals are no longer safe. As Israel's relentless assault continues, medical facilities—once places of healing—have become targets. This week, Israeli shelling struck the surgery department at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, injuring several people. It was the fourth time the hospital has been attacked since the war began.

With only a handful of hospitals still partially functioning, the situation is dire. Maternity wards are barely operational, and midwives are forced to work without basic equipment. According to humanitarian organisations, some 17,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women are now malnourished and urgently need help.

The United Nations has condemned the attacks as unacceptable, warning that the complete blockade of Gaza—now in place for over 70 days—is pushing the population into catastrophe. Yet the strikes continue, the borders remain shut, and healthcare workers are left trying to save lives under fire.
