Head of US-Israeli Backed Gaza Aid Body Resigns Amid Accusations of Covering Genocide

The head of a US and Israeli-backed aid initiative has resigned, raising fresh concerns over the credibility of humanitarian operations in Gaza amid a deepening humanitarian catastrophe.

Jake Wood, director of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, said the organisation could not carry out its work without compromising core humanitarian values. He urged the Israeli authorities to expand access to aid and called for alternative delivery mechanisms.

Human rights groups, including Euro-Med Monitor, have condemned Israel’s current aid system as illegal and manipulative. They say the mechanism is designed to force the displacement of northern Gaza residents and manage hunger, not resolve it.

The four aid centres established by Israeli forces are insufficient and dangerous to access, requiring families to travel long distances on foot under military siege. Rights groups warn that arbitrary detentions and forced disappearances are also increasing.

A Haaretz investigation revealed that the foundation was created in secret by figures close to Prime Minister Netanyahu, without oversight from Israel’s security agencies. Millions in funds were allocated without transparency, prompting concerns over political misuse and personal interests.

As Israel’s genocidal war continues, Palestinians warn that humanitarian aid is being weaponised, with relief efforts manipulated to serve occupation objectives rather than alleviate suffering.
