American ice cream giant Ben & Jerry’s has unveiled new product designs in the U.S. featuring pro-Palestinian artwork, amplifying its stance in support of Palestinian rights. The redesigned packaging is now appearing in thousands of stores nationwide, marking a bold step in the company’s ongoing advocacy.
The move follows a legal clash last year between Ben & Jerry’s and its parent company, Unilever, after the ice cream maker accused the multinational of suppressing its pro-Palestinian statements during Israel’s war on Gaza. Ben & Jerry’s even threatened to disband its board over the dispute.
This isn’t the first time the two have clashed over Palestine. In 2021, Ben & Jerry’s sued Unilever for selling its Israeli business to a local distributor—a deal that kept its products in illegal West Bank settlements despite the company’s earlier boycott, which it said aligned with its ethical values.
Unilever, the British conglomerate behind Ben & Jerry’s and other major brands, has faced repeated criticism for prioritising profits over principles in its handling of the ice cream maker’s activism. The latest packaging signals Ben & Jerry’s refusal to stay silent on Palestine, even under corporate pressure.
