Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi has conducted a talk with European officials regarding the confrontation of Israel's annexation plan and the resumption of the settlement process based on the two-state solution. This came during calls held with his French, German and Latvian counterparts, in addition to the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, according to a statement issued by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement has noted that Al-Safadi and Borrell confirmed the continuing coordination and joint work to prevent the implementation of the annexation plan and re-launch serious negotiations to achieve a just peace depending on the two-state solution.
Al-Safadi meets with his Latvian counterpart, in a "unified position in rejecting the annexation and considering it a violation of international law and an undermining of peace efforts."
In addition, he has continued, with the German Foreign Minister, coordination on joint efforts to face the Israeli plan, and restart the settlement process.
Furthermore, in his contact with the French Foreign Minister, Al-Safadi has discussed the ongoing efforts made against Israel's decision to annex Palestinian lands to its sovereignty. They have also talked about the continued coordination of positions within the European-Arab framework and developing a horizon to launch negotiations to progress towards resolving the conflict on the basis of a two-state solution and international law.
It is worth mentioning that Israel intends to annex more than 30% of the Jordan Valley and all settlements in the West Bank, amid Palestinian, Arab, and international rejection.
Most of the EU countries have opposed such a plan, and threatened to take countermeasures if it proceeds with this step.
