Students at the University of Cambridge have reignited their pro-Palestinian encampment outside Trinity College, urging the institution to divest from companies complicit in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. Organised by Cambridge for Palestine (C4P), the protest began on 30 May 2025, with tents and banners lining the college lawn. A rally the next day drew around 200 students, staff, and residents chanting for justice and accountability.
C4P has issued four demands: full disclosure of financial ties to companies violating international law, complete divestment from these firms, redirection of investments towards Palestinian communities, and adoption of an ethical investment policy. The group accuses Trinity College of complicity in what they describe as genocide, citing its £61,735 investment in Elbit Systems, an Israeli weapons manufacturer.
Speakers at the rally included individuals with personal ties to Gaza, who condemned the college’s financial involvement. One declared, “Trinity’s investments are directly involved in the holocaust in Gaza. We are here peacefully calling for divestment.” The protest follows mounting discontent over the university's failure to act on past ethical commitments.
This renewed action reflects a national trend, with similar encampments and protests emerging at Oxford, UCL, and Manchester. In a notable response to such pressure, King’s College Cambridge recently committed to divest from arms companies linked to Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The encampment at Trinity College highlights the persistence of student-led calls for institutional responsibility, as academic spaces across the UK become focal points in the global demand for justice for Palestinians.
