The death toll from Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza has neared 56,000, according to the Ministry of Health in the besieged enclave. Monday’s report painted yet another grim picture of a war that has devastated every facet of Palestinian life, from homes and hospitals to food queues and burial grounds.
At least 39 Palestinians were killed in the last 24 hours alone, including one body recovered from the rubble. More than 317 others were injured. Among them, 17 were killed and over 136 wounded while trying to receive humanitarian aid, bringing the total number of aid-related deaths to 467 and injuries to over 3,600.
Since March, nearly 5,700 have been killed, adding to the staggering overall figure of 55,998 martyrs and 131,559 injuries since October 2023. Thousands more remain missing, presumed buried beneath collapsed buildings or lying lifeless in streets where rescuers can no longer reach.
As Gaza’s emergency teams struggle to function under fire, the numbers reveal more than a humanitarian crisis, they reflect a campaign of annihilation. For Palestinians, even lining up for bread or water has become a fatal risk. The world may debate legal definitions, but on the ground in Gaza, the reality is clear: this is a war against survival itself.
