A coalition of human rights organisations has filed a war crimes complaint in Paris against two French-Israeli snipers accused of killing civilians, including children, in the Gaza Strip. The legal action, led by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), names the soldiers as Sasha A. and Gabriel B., both members of the Israeli army’s notorious “Ghost Unit.”
The complaint was submitted in coordination with the French Human Rights League, Al-Haq, Al Mezan, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, and the French-Palestinian Solidarity Association. It accuses the two men of grave violations, including the deliberate targeting of civilians, torture, and participation in what the plaintiffs describe as acts of genocide and crimes against humanity.
Since October 2023, the Israeli offensive on Gaza, backed by the United States, has resulted in over 190,000 Palestinians killed or wounded, most of them women and children. More than 11,000 people remain missing, and entire neighbourhoods have been turned to rubble. The complaint places particular focus on the calculated nature of the violence, targeting unarmed civilians in contexts where there was no apparent military threat.
Beyond Gaza, Israeli forces and settlers have also intensified attacks across the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, with nearly 1,000 Palestinians killed and thousands more injured. The case in Paris is one of the most significant legal efforts yet to demand accountability for the ongoing atrocities, challenging the impunity often granted to foreign fighters involved in Israeli military operations.
