Rights Group Condemns US Sanctions on UN Rapporteur as Assault on Justice for Gaza

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has strongly condemned Washington's decision to impose sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, calling the move a direct attack on international justice and a blatant attempt to silence those exposing atrocities in Gaza.

In a firm statement, the organisation accused the US of punishing truth rather than addressing its complicity in the ongoing genocide. Instead of scrutinising Israel’s actions, Washington chose to target a UN official whose work has shed light on systematic war crimes and the suffering of an entire population.

The group denounced the sanctions as a violation of international law and a dangerous precedent that undermines the independence of the United Nations. They warned that such pressure threatens the credibility of the entire human rights system.

Reaffirming its support for Albanese’s courageous stance, rooted in legal principles and human dignity, the Monitor urged the UN, its human rights bodies, and the global community to reject US intimidation and act swiftly to protect the integrity of international accountability mechanisms.
