Global South Rallies in Bogotá to Demand Accountability for Gaza

A growing alliance of nations is preparing to confront Israel over its war on Gaza. More than 30 countries are expected to gather in Bogotá next week for an emergency summit aimed at introducing legal, diplomatic, and economic measures in response to what they describe as Israel’s blatant violations of international law.

The summit, co-hosted by Colombia and South Africa, comes under the banner of The Hague Group, a coalition formed earlier this year to challenge impunity and restore credibility to international legal institutions. For Palestinians, this marks a rare moment of global alignment, where voices from the Global South are stepping forward to demand justice and uphold principles long ignored by dominant powers.

“This is not just a symbolic gathering,” said South Africa’s Foreign Minister Roland Lamola. “It is about action, and about stopping the destruction of the Palestinian people.” The summit will focus on collective strategies to counter Israeli policies in Gaza and the West Bank, where relentless military attacks, mass displacement, and obstruction of humanitarian aid continue with impunity.

The founding members of The Hague Group, including Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Honduras, Malaysia, Namibia, Senegal, and South Africa, represent a widening front of states refusing to stay silent in the face of ongoing atrocities. In a world too often paralysed by double standards, this summit could become a pivotal moment in the long struggle for Palestinian justice.
